The magnification of the glory of Christ and the maximizing of our joy is the beautiful dance we engage in with our great God and Savior Jesus Christ while walking this pilgrim’s path here and now. Christianity is not the killjoy of all pleasure, but rather the catalyst to experience true happiness in innumerable ways. He, that is Christ, is preparing for us a place in heaven that is beyond all imagination. Yet, incomprehensibly so, while here, Christ offers us foretastes of blessings of what the heavenly feast will be like.
Heaven will not be static but dynamic. We will not sit around doing nothing, but will live out new experiences of joy, and happiness, and running, and exploring, and storytelling, and fellowship, and feasting, and worship. We will forever be experiencing the inexhaustible fullness of God in a myriad of ways. We will hear the stories that John saw lived out but did not write about at the end of his gospel. We will understand more fully the wave upon wave of grace that washed over us. We will come to hear the ‘rest of the story’ as Jesus shares with us how He intervened in so many ways that we were unaware of in our lives, and that of others. We will meet those who were the benefactors of the ripple effect of one person sharing the rock of the gospel with another person, and another, and another.
The longing of our heart here will be satisfied there as we come to see our Jesus face-to-face. Perhaps the words “It will be worth it all when we see Jesus” will come to our minds. Maybe the spontaneous display of laughter and tears will overcome us as our lives flash before us giving Christ the opportunity to wipe away all tears. I think ultimately we will not be able to take our eyes off of Him. We will touch His scars in humility and gratitude. We will be spellbound as we hear the strength and tenderness of His voice. We will finally feel the fullness of satisfaction and significance in His presence. We will be overwhelmed by the shining of the fullness of His pristine beauty, holiness, and glory. May His Word burn as a fire in our chest, and with urgency may we share it with all in mercy and truth.
